My mom, who had work the very next day, drove my sister and myself to this tattoo shop that was roughly 40 minutes from my home, and around 2 hours for my sister. Immediately it appears overall tame however several people had their kids there just hanging out, and just as many people were smoking right outside the main entrance to the shop. This was a first come first serve situation and I didn’t intend on lining up with my C-tank running roughly 6 liters next to a bunch of lit cigarettes.
If you are on the transplant list, I would not get one. Also, if you have cultured/colonized MRSA, doctors worry about that also. I would ask your transplant center what they would recommend if you wanted to get one. I would say making sure the place is reputable and that they are aware of the need to be extra cautious considering your situation, but again I don't have a tattoo.

If she showed up in my office with one, I would TELL her to get another Doctor and I would tell you that you are an IDIOT. One thing to consider, if your tx center is against new tattos post tx, before deciding to go against the "rules"... The possibility of being turned down for a second tx by your center for non-compliance, in the event you were to ever need a second tx.
Either way, while it would at first infuriate her because she is massively anti tat, she would eventually realize my first and only tat would be about and for her/me. Well thank God you are not her doctor then huh? A doctor that would get rid of their patient because they "got a tattoo" against doctors orders, is not a great doctor in my opinion. Every day is a blast though, the positive impact it’s had on my physical and mental health makes everything CF related so much easier to deal with. With the money I received from the Helen Barrett Award I was able to purchase a lot of equipment that I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to afford for a while. My main purchase was two tattoo machines of my own. I bought a good-quality work station and a bunch of inks too.
Three, I can choose what my tattoo looks like and where it’s placed. A bundle of roses on my lower back sounds attractive because it’s within my control. Two, a tattoo is not simply a body modification made with ink. Tattoos appeal to me as someone who has very little energy but wants to express who I am on the inside. I can expend little energy while advocating for something big. It’s similar to how a simple black-and-blue mark can put my invisible symptoms on the outside.
People who aren’t tattooers often design things way too small or detailed to work as a tattoo, or that will age well. What works on a computer screen doesn’t always work on skin. I love you all and cannot wait to see what the next several years have to offer. I have several friends that have gotten tattoos post transplant and none of them have had a problem. All Doctor's will say NO based on medical statistics. It's not a good idea because you're risking infection even if you are heathly. Your immune system will be weaker than an average adult making the risk HIGHER and more easily prone to infection. I said, "no I have Cystic Fibrosis, or CF" and their interest immediately left, lol. Then probably the crowning moment of this entire situation, outside of my sister and I getting our tattoos.
