As the ingredients melt, they will start to turn clear. You know they are ready when the color is translucent and no clumps remain. Jackie – If you have a reaction to coconut oil, I would use jojoba oil instead.
About Making Your Own Floral Infusions
Fill a saucepan with 1 to 2 inches (2.54 to 5.08 centimeters) of water and place a glass, heat-safe bowl on top. Make sure that the bottom of the bowl does not touch the water. Blend the ingredients together using an electric mixer for about 1 minute. The cream is ready once it turns thick and creamy—like whipped cream. You can do this using a handheld mixer or a stand mixer.
If you’re very unsure, make small batches. Maybe no more than 20-50g at a time so you don’t waste too much of your ingredients. You can also make a very simple formula, using just distilled water and vegetable oil to save money while working with new e-waxes. But I would definitely encourage you to keep your skin care products as natural as possible. But sometimes we have to accept that not everything can be 100% natural.
How to Make Face Cream
While it is turning, slowly pour 1 cup (236.5 grams) of aloe vera gel into it. From time to time, pause the blender, and scrape down the sides with a rubber spatula. Turn the heat up to medium and allow the water to come to a simmer. Let the oils and beeswax melt, stirring occasionally. You are ready once they turn liquid and translucent. Close the jar, then store it in a cool, dry place.
Once the actual cocoa nib is obtained, they are added to a grinder jar and finely ground. Pass this paste through cotton or mulmul cloth to obtain that perfect cocoa butter and store it as you like. Beat the ingredients together with a whisk, then transfer it to a glass jar. Once you have all of the ingredients in your bowl, beat them together with a whisk until all of the oils, butters, and gels are evenly mixed together. Transfer the mixture into a glass jar using a rubber spatula. Not just for skincare, cocoa butter can be used for cooking purposes as well.
Making a Shea Butter Based Moisturizer
Vitamin E oil helps reduce signs of aging, such as wrinkles and lines. It also helps promote skin growth and regeneration. Aloe vera gel is cool and soothing, making it idea for reducing acne and inflammation.
It is often used for making chocolate bars and even white chocolate, and the use of cocoa butter gives the chocolate a silky & smooth finish. With a pale yellow & chocolaty flavour, cocoa butter is sold in its solid form and needs to be melted before cooking. One can often find cocoa butter in body creams, scrubs, lip balms, and foot creams. Look at the properties of the essential oils that you choose. Ylang Ylang and neroli will make an uplifting day-cream whilst geranium and lavender makes a vigorous night-cream.
Diy Face Moisturizer
Sometimes it is possible to make a formula too complicated. It’s possible to add two ingredients that will cancel each other out. As for the other ingredients, you could swap them out as you see fit. Feel free to change the carrier oil to what works best for you or your skin type. Avocado oil, sweet almond oil, and jojoba oil are all great carrier oils for a face cream, but take a look at our post, The Best Organic Carrier Oils & Their Uses. When it states to add the preservative, you will notice I give a choice of when to add it.
Without it, the skin can look tired, dry and will age faster over time. This cream is great to use in the mornings and evenings. You can keep one of the jars in your bathroom, but you should store the rest in the fridge so that they last longer. Use the cream morning and evening within 3 to 4 months.
Use a rubber spatula to transfer the cream to a glass jar, and store it in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. The plastic may leach chemicals into the cream over time; the essential oils may also degrade the plastic as well. Use the cream within 6 to 12 months.Coconut oil has a low melting point. If your cream starts to get too soft, store it in the fridge. Transfer the mixture into a glass jar using a rubber spatula and store it in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Avoid using plastic, as it tends to leach chemicals overtime.
All of this sounds fine, but I agree that the castor oil might have been a problem. It’s a very thick oil, full of heavy triglyceride, and would probably require a lot more e-wax than you’d ordinarily want to use. I save my castor oil for soaps, massage oils and oil cleansers.
You can, however, swap this out for whatever you like. If there’s a particular essential oil that works great for your skin, now is the time to use it. E.g., if you want to give this cream some excellent anti-gaining action, consider using frankincense and lavender, which are a great pairing for this.
And don’t forget to have a look at my new DIY face moisturizer course, it’s the product of many years of experience. To give your face cream that little extra, you can substitute all of the distilled water in the recipes below with floral waters . Without the use of a solubilizer, the emulsion is the only moisturizing product that can use both water and oil-soluble ingredients together. Hold off on the aloe vera and essential oil for now. Transfer the mixture to a clean jar, then let it cool and harden.
You would be surprised to know that cocoa butter has a high smoking point and thus, it can be used for high-temperature cooking. Its quantity is also used less for it needs to be melted first before cooking. Avoid using a plastic jar, as the chemicals in the plastic may eventually leach into the moisturizer. The essential oils may also corrode the plastic as well.
Keep stirring until the coconut oil melts and gets evenly mixed into the melted beeswax. Coconut oil is naturally moisturizing, but some people find that it clogs pores. If you tend to get a lot of blackheads or acne, you may wish to omit it or replace it with shea butter. Melt ½ cup of shea butter in the double boiler over medium heat.
